- Nakeba

Nakeba McKoy, Founder and CEO of SOCAFaith LLC., is a proud Caribbean-American and devout Christian. Born and raised on the american soil of Brooklyn, NY, Nakeba was born to a mother native from the West Indian island of Trinidad & Tobago and a father native from the Central American country of Belize. Nakeba's roots include and also traces back to Carriacou (the sister Isle of Grenada) , Barbados, Honduras and India.
Nakeba is a scholar, multifaceted higher education professional, mental health advocate and entrepreneur. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Syracuse University and a Master's degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs Administration from Pace University. Around the clock, she is a genuine-hearted social butterfly with a gift for networking and connecting with people of all backgrounds, as well as an humanitarian with a heart for helping others and giving back to her community.

Growing up in a traditional Caribbean household, Nakeba's love for the sweet sounds of Soca and Calypso music was shaped by the predominant influence and tradition of her Trinbagonian roots. At 9 years old, she began "playing mas" in the annual NYC Labor Day Kiddies Carnival. She continued playing mas into adulthood in the NYC Labor Day Parade (affectionately known as the West Indian Labor Day Parade), Toronto's Caribana, St. Maarten Carnival, Grenada's Spice Mas and Trinidad Carnival known as the "Greatest Show on Earth". It is on her bucket list to play mas across the seas at every major Caribbean carnival.

Due to the misconstrued history and visual display of 'Carnival', there was always a hypocritical or contradictory view of religion. Nakeba, a devout Christian and Masquerader, was judged and chastised for her participation in both entities. Many people were unaware that she understood the historical context and true meaning of Carnival, as well as the symbolism it represents within the culture. At the same time, she didn't think it affected her religious beliefs or how she lived her life in accordance with her faith. If anything, Nakeba realized that the purpose of Carnival and the music it produces is to empower all people "to come as they are", promote positivity, inspire, and celebrate freedom.
After countless lectures throughout her life about her image as a woman and renditions of biblical scripture that may oppose her cultural tradition of Carnival, Nakeba felt daunted but was adamant about defying stereotypical perceptions. In her views about embracing this aspect of her culture and it not compromising her faith, Nakeba referred to her feelings as SOCAFaith. Inspired by her love of Soca music and the concept of religion, Nakeba eventually thought to connect the terms SOCA and FAITH to also promote the belief in how Soca music can unify, bring healing to the world and save lives.
The Story Behind SOCAFaith

Through Nakeba's love of her culture, unwavering religious views and faith in this brand, she hopes that SOCAFaith will make a statement within the Caribbean community, the Soca music industry, and among believers. She hopes to inspire other people and nations to embrace and love the Caribbean culture regardless of who they are or what they believe in.
